Rick Majzun Joins Reach Capital as a Healthcare Advisor
Many of the healthcare entrepreneurs we chat with these days are building tools for health systems. Rick Majzun has spent 30 years running them. His experience and perspectives are not something one can build from the outside or overnight, and they make him an invaluable thought partner for Reach Capital as we invest in founders working to innovate how health systems operate.
Rick is President and Chief Operating Officer of Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, home to Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford and one of the country’s preeminent pediatric care networks, now spanning more than 65 locations across the Bay Area. His extensive career has included senior leadership roles at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Children’s, and Women & Infants Hospital in Providence before landing at Stanford in 2019. What shifted him from adult to pediatric care was a single NICU tour early in his career, a moment he still describes as encountering “the intersection of humanity and science.”
Today, Rick is in the thick of ambitious digital transformation efforts with a clear-eyed sense of where AI belongs in health systems — and where it doesn’t. He’s skeptical of silver bullets in healthcare and prefers to operate according to a time-tested maxim: “Find the right tool for the right workflow, prove it works, and expand from there.”
Where Rick gets most animated is expanding access to care, particularly in pediatrics where specialists are scarce, waitlists are long, and the communities that need help most are often the furthest from services. He sees underserved verticals like sleep medicine, neurology, and radiology as other areas where technology can meaningfully support clinical judgement further than any individual provider can reach on their own. He’s equally passionate about women’s health as another chronically underinvested category that deserves serious attention.
For our portfolio companies and future investments, Rick offers something that’s hard to find: an operator’s instinct for what works and doesn’t inside complex health systems, paired with genuine enthusiasm for the startups driving change. We’re grateful to count on him as one of our healthcare advisors!
