About Reach
Reach Capital is the leading early-stage venture firm investing in founders who elevate human purpose and potential across learning, health, and work. We believe AI is the most transformative technology in human history, and its impact across these sectors will define the decades ahead.
Our portfolio spans recognized AI leaders such as Replit, GPTZero, Gradescope, Handshake AI, Manifold and Mathpix — alongside frontier innovators including CurvePoint, Godela, Mecha Health, and Songscription. We are doubling down on AI-native founders building products and platforms that meaningfully expand opportunity for learners, patients, and workers.
We are seeking a Senior Associate or Principal-level AI Investor to join our investment team. This is a core investing role focused primarily on sourcing, evaluating, and diligencing AI-native companies at the earliest stages. You will bring hands-on technical depth and strong investment judgment to help Reach identify and win the most compelling opportunities at the frontier of AI.
About the Role
Primary Responsibilities
This is a true “full stack” experience where you will have the opportunity to learn every aspect of venture capital. Tasks include:
Sourcing & Investment
- Proactively identify and engage high-potential AI-native founders across learning, health, and work.
- Build conviction in emerging markets and companies through technical research, founder conversations, and market mapping.
- Partner with the investment team to refine and advance Reach’s AI theses.
- Lead or co-lead investments from origination through diligence and investment committee presentation.
Technical Diligence
- Play a central role in technical diligence for AI and deep tech opportunities.
- Evaluate model architecture, data strategy, infrastructure choices, and system design for AI-native products in production.
- Assess technical differentiation, scalability, and defensibility in close partnership with founders.
- Translate technical analysis into clear, decision-useful investment insights.
Portfolio Engagement
- Support portfolio founders on technical questions post-investment, particularly around early architecture and hiring.
- Serve as a thoughtful technical partner to founders navigating early product and engineering tradeoffs.
Ecosystem & Firm Contribution
- Contribute to Reach’s visibility in the AI ecosystem through founder relationships and selective external engagement.
- Over time, identify opportunities to improve how Reach sources, diligences, and tracks investments, including through tooling or process improvements.
Ideal Candidate
- 3-5 years of experience in a technical role (e.g., ML engineer, software engineer, technical PM, applied researcher) working with production AI/ML systems.
- Deep familiarity with modern AI stacks (e.g., LLMs, model deployment, data pipelines, infrastructure tradeoffs).
- Extremely respected by technical founders and comfortable engaging deeply on architecture and product decisions.
- Demonstrated interest in venture investing and company building (e.g. angel investing, advising, organizing), ideally with a track record of partnering early with startups that are now at scale / have raised Tier 1 institutional funding.
- Next-level hustle and a no-job-too-small attitude.
- Strong analytical judgment and written communication skills.
- Based in or willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area.
Opportunity
- Join Reach as a core member of the investment team with direct exposure to sourcing, diligence, and decision-making.
- Apprentice under a deeply experienced and collaborative investment partnership.
- Develop pattern recognition across cutting-edge AI-native companies at the earliest stages.
- Financially and strategically support the most talented founders in the world (in our humble opinion!).
- Build a durable foundation for a long-term career in venture investing or technical + commercial leadership at the intersection of AI and human flourishing.
What This Role Is Not
- An in-house engineer. While you may help build some internal tooling to automate workflows as needs arise, the core of your work will be investing in and supporting startups.
- Guaranteed partner track OR time-boxed junior stint. We are a small, nimble partnership with a track record of creating roles, responsibilities, and pathways just-in-time to best support our portfolio founders, deliver value to our limited partners, and facilitate the development of our teammates. You will be an essential member of our team and continue to grow within Reach (potentially up to and including partner level) for as long as it makes sense for both you and us.
- Remote. We are strong believers in the importance of in-person collaboration and culture-building. You will join our Bay Area teammates in our beautiful South Park office Tuesdays through Thursdays.
Our Values — The Reach Way
- Strong relationships are at the core of our work
- Work in service of our entrepreneurs
- Be direct but empathetic
- Be authentic
- Express gratitude daily
- Act quickly
- Embrace humility
- Never stop learning
